Dear Parents
We have had a busy and eventful beginning to the second term between the terrible storm and all the exciting events taking place over the last few weeks.
Our Grade 4-7 learners are preparing for their upcoming exams. Please try to avoid unnecessary absenteeism and if your child is ill and needs to remain at home, please do try and assist your child in catching up any work they may have missed. Do not underestimate the power of preparation:
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier
All the best to our older learners in their preparation and may all the hard work pay off.
We just want to take some time to say a big thank you to our parents for all the support and co-operation. We have been able to start some exciting initiatives and make a few significant upgrades which we were only able to do because of your support – keep reading to see what we have been busy with this term.
Warm regards
Nicole Liddle
Classroom TV’s
As a result of fundraising we were able to purchase and install four TV’s in our Grade 2-5 classrooms so that our learners and teachers are able to enjoy educational clips and presentations as part of their lessons.
One of our aims as a school is to start introducing more technology into the classroom and this has made our first step possible.
Every class from Grade 1 -7 now has a screen available in their classroom and the Grade R learners are able to use the screen in our Media Room which means all learners and teachers have access to a screen to improve and expand our methods of teaching and learning.
Book Week
Last Friday’s Book Character Dress-Up concluded our Book Week. We had a wonderful line up for the week and enjoyed watching the learners engage in illustrating their own characters under the guidance of Emily House.
We were all so impressed with the original costumes and characters that arrived at school today! Thank you for your book donations – the learners so appreciate the variety of reading material donated.
Family Fun Run
We are very excited about our first Fun Run taking place on Saturday 4 May between 10am and 1pm! Thank you to those parents who have volunteered and to those who are joining us as vendors or participants. We are so excited to see you all there.
There will be loads of delicious goodies to eat, crafts and homemade items as well as loads of entertainment for the children in the form of crafts, races, pony rides, face paint and even a snake show if you are brave enough. NB: Please note that all participants (including the learners) need to purchase a R30 ticket/lap card to participate in the race. Tickets/lap cards can be purchased through TapTuck or cash from the office. We look forward to seeing you all there!

We have been working on upgrading our library and media room. We will be adding your book donations to our shelves this week.

Dear Parents
We cannot believe how time has flown – we are already in the middle of the first term! We would like to say a very big thank you for supporting our Valentine’s Day Fundraiser. It was a very special day and the learners all looked lovely in their red, white and pink. We would like to wish all of our older learners well as they begin their assessments this term. Remember to work hard and prepare in advance. Preparation is key to success!
Thank you for your patience as we transition over to TapTuck. The learners have enjoyed tapping their cards at the Tuck Shop. Please feel free to contact us at any point should you have any queries. We will still be accepting cash during this transition period. A friendly reminder that all uniform orders need to be submitted before the 1st of March with the proof of payment attached to the order form.
I hope all of our families had a wonderful time on Valentine’s Day – reminding each other of our love for one another. Please feel free to contact me should you have any queries. As always, my door is always open.
Warm regards

TOASTED SARMIES
Please note that we will be selling toasted cheese/cheese and tomato sandwiches as well as juice boxes. Initially this will only take place on Mondays and Wednesdays as an extra snack for aftercare or before extra-murals. The sandwiches will be made to order for second break (1pm) for Grade 3-7 learners and after school for our younger learners (Grade R-2).
If you would like to make use of this option please order via TapTuck (second break/after school) or send cash along. All orders need to be placed before 8am of the day the order is placed for.
SPELLING BEE
We are looking forward to our Spelling Bee coming up soon! This is a little quiz which takes place on paper – fear not, Grade R and 2 parents. We will make it very age appropriate and there are always exciting prizes to be won!
IMPORTANT DATES
Dear Parents
It is so lovely to be back at school with our learners! A big welcome to our new families – we are all very excited to get to know you better and for you to become part of the Biweni Primary School community. All the learners are settling back into routine beautifully!
I want to say a big thank you to our families for making the time to join us at the parent meeting last week. Thank you for being patient while we shared all the important information we need you to know so that we are able to ensure that 2024 is a wonderful success!
We look forward to seeing you all at our annual Family Picnic this week. It is an excellent opportunity for families to get to know one another and I can promise that your child will sleep very well after a few hours of non-stop play with their friends! There will be some activities to keep their children busy so please bring along the whole family. As I mentioned last week, we truly believe that open communication is key!
Please feel free to contact us at any time should any issues arise or if you have any questions. My door is always open.
